About the Field Camp
What is GFCU 2017?
Geoscience field Camp in Ukraine 2017 is a great international event for geoscientists and beginners in geophysics, geology and other related sciences! Participants of the event have a chance to learn several geophysical methods for solving problems of near surface geology, archaeology and civil engineering. Also there will be lections from professionals in geophysics and geology, therefore you will get useful information for development of geo-skills! Moreover, there will be free excursions, so you will get in touch with exciting natural (the longest gypsum cave in the world (!), breathtaking river canyons, endless fields and meadows) and historical (ancient castle, churches, two of the most ancient cities in Europe) wonders of Ukraine! And of course there will be motivated students from several European countries and you will spend a good time with new geo-friends ! ! ! So, several benefits are waiting for you in Ukraine at the end of the Summer 2017 - don't lose your chance to take part in GFCU 2017 - come to registration!
About the SEG Student Chapret from Kyiv
On the 2 of February 2002 the student chapter was created and called "Kyiv University Geophysical Society". Pavlo Gryschuk played the most significant role in the creation of chapter, and until now he is our mentor and very active member of SEG.
The student chapter was extremely popular in first years of existence. In the next years "Kyiv University Geophysical Society" and geological faculty were attended by many lecturers. Among them were Sergiy Vyzhva, Aldo Vesnaver, Per Avseth, Ian Jones and others.
Students of the chapter have also participated many times in different events. Eugene Ustenko has attended IBA (Imperial Barrel Award) and SEP (Students Education Program). Members of "Kyiv University Geophysical Society" have participated in different geo-meetings in London, Copenhagen and Prague. Our mentor has also attended Workshop of Faculty Advisors SEG in Houston (2009) and Denver (2010).
But by the year 2011 almost all active members of SEG student chapter have graduated from the university. This started "black" stripe in the history of "Kyiv University Geophysical Society". Only Tatiana Ilchenko has attended SLS 2012 in Las Vegas and some other meetings in Houston in this period.
The autumn of 2014 can be considered as the beginning of the new era in the SEG student chapter`s history. It started to be as active as never.
Out student chapter has been presented on the 85th SEG Annual Meeting that was held in New Orleans, LA by the faculty adviser who took part at SEG Faculty Advisors Workshop and by Oleh Loshakov who participated in Student Leadership Symposium sponsored by Chevron. After this our members participated in a lot of different scientific programs and conferences. Among them IBA (Imperial Barrel Award) (Czech republic) SEG/AAPG Field Camp (Hungary), SEG 2016 Field Camp (Poland), The 4th AAPG European Student Chapter Leadership Days (Hunhary), The 5th Budapest Education Days (Hungary) TU1208 COST Training school (Croatia) can be mentioned. Also the vice-president of the chapter 2016 Olena Rybnikova visited the 86th SEG Annual Meeting in Dallas and took a part in SLS program sponsored by Chevron. We are proud of our president who is working at the 22nd Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition as a geophysicist.
Besides that our everyday chapter`s work is based on discussing of our scientific life, sharing news and ideas, presenting information about internships and employment opportunities abroad etc. Also I would like to mention to our work on popularization of geology: members of chapter are giving presentation-lessons in Ukrainian schools about geology and opportunities that can be opened in this direction for future students.
Summer of 2017 is really important period for Kyiv University Geophysical Society because it is the first time when we have won the chance to organize a SEG Field Camp!
